Legendborn

Let me start with: This was my best read this year if I count the ancestry, history of POC, their craft... I enjoyed it a ton. I've no comments on that part. It was the reason I actually picked up this book. The reason I'm rating this book so low, and I'm kicking my ass for it, is because I couldn't make myself really believe the love between FMC and MMC. I'm truly and overly cursed by books like Fourth Wing (which I didn't enjoy), ACOTAR (series— which I also didn't enjoy), and Powerless (trilogy — I surprisingly, also didn't enjoy). I expected FMC to up and fall in love with the "broody" dark-haired boy and, at that moment, I distanced myself. It was too good to be true she would stay with MMC. (Note: Whether she did or didn't I'll leave out for everyone else to find out.) Part of me couldn't comprehend how easy it was for the two of them to fall in love with each other. I guess I'm drawing from my own personal feelings and how I view love for others. I'm a slow-burn girl for IRL relationships. I yearn before I feel lust, I yearn before I take the first step to attempt a silly 'ask someone out' gesture. There were a few moments where I was really confused about what was happening. But at some point I was automatically reading and not comprehending, so I'll sign up for that. I also didn't attach myself to FMC's friends. (For me, it's more than usual to attach to "expendable" characters and grieve if anything happens to them, they could break an arm, and I'd be sniffling, holding a tissue to my eyes.) What I love, though, is the lack of cliffhanger at the end of the book. It's not a jarring one, a rarity amongst other titles nowadays. And god, would I love to see that more often. I'll be heavily considering continuing reading this trilogy. For now, I am not certain about abandoning or continuing.
