Popis

This is a collection of projects and ideas on how to design, decorate and customize tiles for all areas of the home. It includes a practical guide to techniques such as stamping, using stencils, decoupage and gilding. The projects offer a variety of tiling ideas for walls, floors, doors, furniture and splash backs, as well as applying tiles to tables, frames, window boxes and pots. You can create distinctive pieces such as a panelled bedhead, kitchen shelf, decorated tray, mirror frame or little table. It offers looks and themes from around the world, such as Islamic interiors, vibrant Mediterranean courtyards, classic Art Deco, and the bright hues of South America. This book contains a host of fabulous ways to decorate and paint tiles for use around the home. Following an introduction that explores the tradition of tile-making and major stylistic influences, the book then explains how to design with tiles, work with patterns and use them in distinctive and unusual ways. A comprehensive section on hand-painting tiles includes over 30 designs by contemporary artists, and step-by-step photographs guide you through every stage of creating your own. This is followed by practical projects inspired by a variety of themes and styles, on how to embellish door panels, a window recess, borders, table tops, and floor and wall areas in different rooms of the house. With a rich medley of artistic styles, crafting techniques and visual inspiration, this book will help the reader to create designed tiles from Art Deco to Byzantine style, and from Folk Art to the Arts and Crafts movement.
