It provides an introduction to ocean science, map-making and environmental understanding. The Ocean Map is a striking reimagining of our planet that places the ocean at its heart. Based on the Spilhaus projection, it invites readers to see the world from a new perspective. There are a range of natural, human and ocean habitat locations marked on the map, all of which are explored here, from deep ocean trenches and glaciers, to wind farms and coral reefs. Through features on the Challenger Deep, the Suez Canal, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and the Great Barrier Reef, readers are encouraged to understand how science and human activity take place in, on and around the ocean. The book also highlights the importance of ocean research and conservation, inspiring curiosity and care for marine environments. Key scientific terms and concepts are introduced in an accessible way, supported by a glossary to help young readers build confidence with new vocabulary. Also included is a range of animals from around the world, each of which is hidden throughout the pages for the reader to find. The Ocean Map supports early geography and science learning.
