Howard, Stanley, and Me

You’ve waited several days, and finally your physician is on the phone. The results of your biopsy are in. You brace as the words come. “I’m sorry, but it’s cancer.”

Now what?

An uncertain journey looms as the dreaded word cancer invades your life. You face a vague new normal – forced to come to grips with an unwelcome sense of vulnerability; lack of control; and undeniable anxiety and fear.

Howard, Stanley, and Me explores the author’s eight-plus year journey with this dreaded disease. You’ll be introduced to Stanley, the name ascribed to this unwelcome intruder by innocent grandchildren. You’ll dive deeply into the inner thoughts, struggles, regrets, and victories of the author as cancer causes him to confront the past while an uncertain future unfolds. And you’ll meet Howard – the great physician who both heals and redeems.

Told from a deeply personal and reflective perspective, this book is for anyone facing a life-altering or life-threatening illness. And it is for all who love and those who treat someone walking that path. The reader will discover that God comes to us not in “pillars of clouds or fire”, but in simple acts and words of love.
