Authored by Swiss analytic psychologist Kathrin Schaeppi, who has called Basel home since the age of 15, this book offers a rare opportunity to trace Jung’s footsteps and discover how the city and its surroundings shaped his worldview and informed his groundbreaking theories of the personal and collective unconscious and the individuation process. Drawing on Schaeppi’s deep research into the history of Basel and Jung’s personal and familial background, as well as her years of experience offering guided tours through the city, the book leads readers on five thoughtfully curated walking tours. Each tour represents a distinct chronological period, revealing themes relevant to Jung’s life and intellectual development at the time and uncovering never-before-seen details of his youth. More than just a walking guide, the book provides rich historical context and vivid storytelling, enriched by approximately 150 evocative images that bring Jung’s early years to life—even for readers journeying from afar. Kathrin Schaeppi is a faculty member, training analyst, and supervisor at ISAPZURICH. Her private practice is based in Basel, Switzerland.
