This essential textbook offers guidance for both the student herbalist and the experienced practitioner to better understand the process of prescribing plants as a solution to the problem or ailment a patient presents with.  

Plants on Prescription begins by expanding on some of the theoretical background of herbalism, such as symptom presentation types; therapeutic and energetic models; human physiology; personalised medicine; and more.

The second, central section of the book is categorised for ease of reference. Each chapter explores a broader bodily system, or issue a patient might face. Examples of these chapters include the skin, respiratory tract, heart, circulation of blood, alimentary canal, vestibular conditions and migraines, energy and fatigue, ageing, kidney and urinary tracts, reproductive system, and more.

Throughout these chapters, Barker presents a number of case-studies, which outline prescriptions for specific ailments within these broader categories, along with the author’s rationale for choosing each plant. Barker’s prescriptions take cover a range of herbal remedies such as tisanes, decoctions, aromatic waters, and tinctures. For certain ailments, Barker also details dietary regimes through which nutrition can be of great assistance
