Chairs by Architects answers these and many other questions to illustrate how qualities in architects buildings are also evident in their furniture. Featuring 55 chair designs, from iconic recent examples to little-known masterworks, the book includes such early modern architectural pioneeers as Otto Wagner, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Antoni Gaudí and Walter Gropius, together with contemporary masters such as Oscar Niemeyer, Santiago Calatrava, Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry and Daniel Libeskind. Also containing interviews with design-world luminaries - among them David Adjaye, Zeev Aram and Susanne Graner of the Vitra Design Museum - Chairs by Architects is essential reading for anyone with an interest in design, architecture and the relationship between makers and their creations. About the Author Agata Toromanoff is an art historian. She previously worked for art collectors and galleries, which resulted in curating and managing numerous contemporary art projects. She has written several publications and features in the art press, and also runs BOAblog.net, a site dedicated to books on art. She lives in Germany.
