Born Samuel Langhorn Clemens in 1835, in Hannibal, Missouri, Mark Twain, as a result of his father’s death, had to leave school at the age of twelve to earn his living. He worked as an apprentice to a printer, prospected – unsuccessfully – for gold, then left for South America to make his fortune.

All the answers are to be found in the pages of TwainÂ’s best known published work. The name games require the names of characters to be given to reveal a final name, while each crossword puzzle relies on quotations from one of TwainÂ’s works. The wordsearch puzzles explore various themes in his writing.

All the answers are given at the back of the book, but elusive answers will hopefully encourage you to reread The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn – of which Hemingway said, ‘All Modern American literature comes from [this] one book’ – and all Twain’s other works.
