Hitler’s Third Reich and Stalin’s Soviet Union invaded Poland in September 1939 and the two autocracies proved utterly ruthless in their efforts to subjugate the Polish people. Departing the USSR and joining what became the Polish II Corps, many went onto fight at Monte Cassino.
