Flora Johnston was inspired by the poignant story of the pre-WWI Scottish rugby team which was decimated in the trenches, as well as the letters written by her great-aunt who was a typist at the Paris Peace Conference. For fans of Sebastian Faulks, Helen Dunmore and Pat Barker.
