In December 1840, Charlotte BrontÃ« wrote in a letter to Hartley Coleridge that she wished Â‘with all [her] heartÂ’ that she Â‘had been born in time to contribute to the LadyÂ’s magazineÂ’. Nearly two centuries later, the cultural and literary importance of a monthly publication that for six decades championed womenÂ’s reading and womenÂ’s writing has yet to be documented.
